Rack And Pinion is a kind of linear actuator that works by turning rotational motion into linear motion. It consists of a circular gear (the pinion) engaging a linear gear (the rack). Both straight and helical gears can be used in a rack and pinion drive. To drive the rack linearly, one must rotate the pinion. The pinion will be forced into the rotation if the rack is driven linearly.
